梅ノ木峠 (Ume no Ki Pass), Hinode, Japan

Exploration is always rewarding in western Tokyo. Here, most of the roads are actually on no map, because they are abandoned by the region, and so closed to the car traffic. That is why the 林道 (forest roads) also are the heaven of cyclists, even if you sometimes may better pay attention to your front wheel. Today’s discover is near Hinode, that climbs straight up to Mount Hinode, achieving 300 meters of positive ascent in 1,1km long (which feels like 5). I saw the 40% number on my Garmin screen for the first time ever !
