I used to pass in front of this one quite often, but never took the time to stop and have a look below the gate (鳥居). I should have, because it is one of my favourites. All along the temple, there is a path that goes under the ground, with two entries : the left is named 仏国窟入口 (tunnel entrance to the country of Buddha) and the right 仏国窟出口 (tunnel exit to the country of Buddha). But what is funny, is that 仏国 also is the Kanji abreviation for France. So it could also be read : tunnel entrance to France… #temple #寺
